WARREN BUFFETT SAYS THE ULTIMATE TEST OF A LIFE WELL LIVED BOILS DOWN TO ONE SIMPLE PRINCIPLE – A RAINBOW OF ROLE MODELS {WEDNESDAY SERIES}
We all know that Warren Buffett is a genius when it comes to investment strategies. The Oracle of Omaha is also a sage who imparts business and life wisdom that has now transcended multiple generations of followers.
I have covered many of Buffett’s simple and practical applications in the past. One that clearly stands the test of time, however, is this hard-hitting bit of truth-telling:

This quote was his response to a group of students at Georgia Tech who asked Buffett about his definition of success. It’s also how he has measured his own success.
The ultimate test of a life well-lived

In the Buffett biography The Snowball: Warren Buffett and the Business of Life, Buffett raises the bar of success to a level that most of us are actually able to reach, if we put in the work. It will take, however, a willingness to serve humanity and do good in the world so that others will remember you not by the size of your bank account, but by the size of your heart. Here’s Buffett:
Buffett continues to live what he preaches with his commitment to philanthropy, like the Giving Pledge, which invites billionaires to pledge their wealth to charitable causes.

While most of us will never come remotely close to amassing billions of dollars to give away at the end of our lives, the Buffett principle of “the more you give love away, the more you get back” can certainly be replicated in less-grand fashion where we find ourselves. There are two ways to carry forward Buffett’s lesson of giving and getting love:
1. Work with people you love
Buffett once said, “I love every day. I mean, I tap dance in here and work with nothing but people I like. There is no job in the world that is more fun than running Berkshire, and I count myself lucky to be where I am.”

Work can be a grind and very transactional, but the best places to work are places where people love coming to work because the culture is positive and uplifting, co-workers are connected to one another in a spirit of community, and managers care for their employees.
2. Do work that you love
Buffett also dropped this priceless gem several years back:

Most of us take for granted the security of our jobs and the steady income that comes with it. But I also know many people who dislike what they do and wish they were doing something else — something that they actually loved.
Doing what we love gives us purpose, which fuels our drive to get up in the morning and “tap dance to work.” Research published in Harvard Business Review concluded that to be fully engaged and happy, people need to feel as if their work matters and that their contributions help to achieve something important.
When people find purpose in their work, it will not only improve that person’s happiness, it will boost productivity. To end on a hopeful note, if you don’t know what it is you love to do, then I urge your first step to be finding out what it is you should be doing.
