The Impact of Family Support on Personal Growth
Disclaimer: Good Day, Readers. WealthBuildingPowers blog is a financial literacy/competency blog and does not provide specific investment recommendations.
You Raised Me To Be More Than I Could Be

In my readings, the people most willing to take risks were those who weren’t punished for or taught to fear failure when they were young. “We don’t call it failure; we call it feedback.” Billie Jean King.
I grew up knowing my parents would always be there, no matter what! The song “You Raise Me” by Josh Groban reminds me of my mom, dad, and brother, who lifted me every day!
Unconditional Love and Faith

Unconditional love often comes from family members but can also come from teachers, friends, and mentors. These people see our potential even when we are blinded by fear and self-doubt. They stand by us through thick and thin, offering encouragement and support. This kind of support enables us to face challenges head-on, knowing that we have a safety net of love and faith to catch us if we fall.
The Impact of Mentors

At an early age, I was surrounded by intelligent and accomplished family members and teachers who ignited my passion for learning and growth. They gave me the confidence to fail and try again. They showed a belief in me that I did not sometimes believe. Mentors challenge us to think critically, encourage us to pursue excellence, and inspire us to be the best versions of ourselves.
Role Models and Inspiration

I was surrounded by intelligent, driven, and passionate adults growing up. Being in the company of such individuals motivated me to widen my ambitions and dreams constantly. It pushed me to set higher goals and work diligently towards achieving them. My first and only sports role model was the boxer, Muhammad Ali. While I admired his tremendous boxing skills, it was the example he set for a small-town black boy to hear a black man say I am proud and beautiful. His success demonstrated I could be anything I worked hard enough for. As I matured, I added business leaders like Warren Buffett, Charlie Munger, Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, Jamie Dimond, Thomas Sowell, a renowned Economist, and many more. Even a few politicians, including Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton, became my communications role models.
Overcoming Doubt and Embracing Potential

Reflecting on my journey, I am reminded of the countless times when Mom and others saw potential in me that I could not see in myself. Their encouragement and belief were like a lifeline, pulling me out of the depths of uncertainty and setting me on a path of confidence and determination. It is a powerful reminder of the impact that we can have on others and the importance of surrounding ourselves with positive influences. You will climb to meet inspiring people or lower your standards to please a group of fools. Choose wisely.
Gratitude and Giving Back

As we reflect on the impact of those who raised us to be more, it is crucial to cultivate a sense of gratitude. Recognizing and appreciating the contributions of our mentors, role models, and supporters enriches our lives and deepens our connections with them. Expressing gratitude can take many forms—a heartfelt thank-you, a gesture of appreciation, or simply paying it forward by supporting others in their journeys. By giving back, we honor the legacy of those who have lifted us and continue the cycle of support and encouragement.
Conclusion- Those Who Lifted Me Up
Ultimately, the journey to becoming more than we can be is not one we undertake alone. It is shaped by the love, faith, and support of those around us. From the mentors who guide us to the role models who inspire us and the communities that embrace us, we are lifted by the collective strength of those who believe in us.
The song “You Raise Me” resonates deeply because it reminds us of the profound impact others have on our lives. It is a tribute to the people who, with their unwavering belief and love, help us reach heights we never thought possible. As we continue our journeys, let us remember and honor those who have raised us and strive to be that source of support and inspiration for others.

“You Raise Me Up” By Josh Groban
When I am down and, oh my soul, so weary
When troubles come, and my heart is burdened be
Then, I am still and wait here in the silence
Until You come and sit awhile with me.
You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains
You raise me up, to walk on stormy seas
I am strong, when I am on your shoulders
You raise me up to more than I can be
You raise me up to more than I can be.
