The Unspoken Words I Shared with Dad in a Dream – Written Letter
Dear Dad,
I hope you are at peace and surrounded by love in heaven. It has been over 40 years since you passed away, but I still think about you often. I am writing this letter to express my love and gratitude for everything you did for me, my brother, and your two beautiful grandchildren! You would be so proud of your granddaughters!

When you died, I was young and immature and did not fully understand the importance of expressing my feelings. I am ashamed to admit I never told you how much I loved you while you were alive. Since your passing, I have said “I love you” hundreds of times, wishing you were here to hear it. I pray you can listen to me now, Dad – I Love and Miss You!
You were raised in a dark period of our nation where you experienced horrible racism and even threats to your life. Yet you never complained. You never made excuses. You taught us never to use our race as an excuse.
I am so grateful for the life lessons you taught your sons. Your hard work, determination, and never-give-up attitude have inspired me to be the man I am today. You instilled in me the importance of putting family first, striving to be better, and the power of education. I have carried your teachings and tried to pass them on to my daughter, Amanda.
You modeled what a good father, husband, and son mean. Your listening ear, encouragement, patience, and discipline have been such a gift to me. You have always shown us what it means to be there for each other, to support each other, and to put the family’s needs first.
I have always remembered your words, “Dress for success, be respectful, and carry yourself with dignity” I know that you always wanted the best for me, and I pray I am living a life that would make you proud.
William J Powers, Sr.

Your love of family was evident in everything you did; that love has been a constant source of comfort and inspiration for me. Your mentorship and coaching of young people have impacted so many lives, including mine. I often hear from your students you were a role model in our community.
I also wanted to thank you for teaching me about the importance of financial planning. Your hard work and intelligent planning have given me the foundation to build a successful life for myself and my family. Your legacy will continue through the lessons you taught me and the love you shared with many people.
I miss you every day, and I am so grateful for our time and shared memories. You will always be in my heart.
Finally, thank you for instilling a strong faith in God. Your belief in a higher power has provided comfort and guidance throughout my life.
William J Powers, Sr.

I hope you are in peace and have the happiness you deserve.
I miss you every day, but I take comfort in knowing that you live on through the lessons you taught and the love you gave.
I love you, Dad.

Finding Closure Through a Dream – Written Letter to My Father
Dad died on December 25th, over 40 years ago. At the time, his mom was still living and would live until her late nineties. My paternal grandfather died in his late nineties. I naively thought I had years more with my father. One regret I have never forgiven is my failure to say those three simple words to Dad – I love you.
I remind you, tomorrow is NOT promised. Say those words as often as you can to those you love.
Amanda, Styron, Cyrene, and Bill – I LOVE MY FAMILY!
