AN OPPORTUNITY FOR A $40,000.00 STEM SCHOLARSHIP AT AN HBCU
AN OPPORTUNITY FOR A $40,000.00 STEM SCHOLARSHIP AT AN HBCU

I graduated from a small rural high school and was woefully unprepared for college. Fortunately, I networked with several SMART classmates. We worked hard, helped, and encouraged each other. One hundred percent of the students in this small network graduated as Chemical Engineers.
I am proud to support the Future of STEM Scholars Initiative! Encourage college-bound science and engineering students you know to apply for these scholarships.
In addition to needed funds, FOSSI provides leadership development, mentoring and internship opportunities with program sponsors, and access to student networking events.
See criteria below
$40,000.00 SCHOLARSHIP
Recognizing a lack of diversity throughout the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) workforce, the American Chemistry Council (ACC), American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE), Chemours, and HBCU Week Foundation partnered to establish the Future of STEM Scholars Initiative (FOSSI). This national program seeks to increase the number of underrepresented professionals in the STEM workforce by providing $40,000.00 scholarships to students pursuing STEM degrees at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).
FOSSI supports STEM Scholars who would otherwise not have access to STEM education by eliminating financial barriers.
Each FOSSI scholar is awarded a $40K scholarship ($10K per year, for four years) and offered leadership development and mentoring. The scholarship also includes internship opportunities with program sponsor access to student networking events.
With funding from 43 chemical manufacturers and related industry stakeholders, the program currently supports 151 scholars with an investment of $7.2 million in 2021. Our scholarship recipients represent 28 states, with students planning to attend 26 HBCUs. In its inaugural year, more than 1,700 high school students across the nation applied for FOSSI scholarships, demonstrating both the urgent need for this program and the enormous pool of untapped talent.

A CRITICAL REQUEST – WE NEED MORE CORPORATE SPONSORS
Black and Latino’s students leave the STEM majors at nearly twice the rate of white students. Because black and Latino students are more likely to come from low-income families, many do not have access to the academic resources that traditionally help support students through to completion. Many of these students are borrowing more money and working part-time jobs.
In 2020, several corporations proclaimed, “Black Lives Matter.” Words are good; ACTION IS MUCH BETTER! Get this blog to the right people in your organization. Participation as a sponsor gives you access to some of our nations’ brightest future STEM professionals. FOSSI is making a difference in the future of these young people. Your company’s financial support can make a real difference.
The key to closing the Black and Latino Health and Wealth gaps – EDUCATION!

Thank you in advance for all your consideration and efforts.
PLEASE HELP MAKE A DIFFERENCE TODAY!
“If I had wings I would fly away from
All of my troubles, all of my pain
And I would fly to a place of comfort
Heaven knows I need a change
If I had wings, Lord give me wings
Oh, I’ve had my share of sorrow
Walked alone, alone down the road
I could have used a new tomorrow
If I had wings I’d make it so
One cannot predict the future (one cannot predict the future)
One cannot undo the past (one cannot undo the past)
But we can make the present useful
Build the future that will last“
