Celebrating Progress: Black Americans & Financial Literacy
Disclaimer: Good Day, Readers. The WealthBuildingPowers blog is a financial literacy and competency blog, and it does not provide specific investment recommendations.

Let’s be real: Black Americans still rank at the bottom in education, employment, income, and more. But we’ve come a long way—and that deserves celebration.
In 1940, a staggering 87% of Black Americans lived below the poverty line. By 2023, that number dropped to under 18%. Among Black married couples, the poverty rate was just 6.5%. That’s not just progress—it’s proof that two-parent homes play a significant role in economic success.
🔑 FOUR SIMPLE STEPS TO LEVEL UP
1. 🎓 Finish High School—and Keep Learning
Whether it’s community college, trade school, university, or self-education, keep sharpening your skills. The goal is income-generating ability. Just start. Just build. Just grow.
2. 💼 Get a Job—Any Job
Your skills are your engine. Now put it in gear. Hustle hard, no matter the role. One young man started collecting carts at Walmart. Twenty years later, he manages 300 employees—at Walmart. Effort compounds.
3. 💍 Build a Family After Marriage
I adore my daughter. I wish I had more kids. But here’s the truth: raising children today is expensive. Some families pay $3,000/month for childcare. Two incomes and two committed adults make better parents. Get married first. Or wait. Or protect. Just be intentional.
4. 💰 Save 20% of Your Household Income
Can’t afford it? Work harder. Earn more. Cut waste. Make it happen. I saved consistently—and just returned from a 17-day trip to Kenya and Tanzania. That’s what financial discipline buys you: freedom.
🚀 No Excuses. Take Action.

We’ve made progress. But the journey isn’t over. The next chapter is yours to write—with grit, strategy, and vision.
So celebrate your wins. Then get your behind back to work—and CRUSH IT.
If we want better children, we must become better adults. If we want stronger communities, we must first strengthen ourselves.

The paths to financial freedom are UNLIMITED. CHOOSE YOUR OWN!
