WHEN DID YOU STOP BELIEVING IN SANTA?
Even as a child, I was not a trusting person. I struggled with the concept of a fat, old white man dressed in a red suit coming down our undoubtedly dirty chimney with a YUGEEEE bag of presents! It did not help the Santa Myth when I found our gifts hidden in Dad’s closet behind a wall of boring stuff. I was forced to incorporate this into the myth!
REVISED MYTH #2: Fat, old white guy (sorry, but in the movies, all Santas were fat, happy old white guys) holds his breath and squeezes through the chimney. I still struggled with that chimney thing. What if someone lit a fire? Chest NUTS roasting IN an open fire! Sorry back to the myth.
Thankfully Santa is wearing red, not a white suit, or his suit would be horrendously filthy. With a mighty {YUGEEEE} inhale to suck in Mrs. Claus’s well-prepared meals, he sticks the fireplace, landing like a fat gold medalist – TEN!. Santa quietly {as my cat Jazzy, who still frightens me some days} sneaks into our den. He knows exactly where Dad hid our presents. Very neatly {sort of a feminine touch, I thought} arranges our gifts on the sofa. Yep – our Santa did not believe in under the tree. The floor is dirty, people!
Finally, a giant Sears vacuum {In this era, Sears sold everything, like Amazon} sucks him up to the roof. Where Rudolph and her buddies are frantically trying not to fall off the slanted roof. {This might have been the start of my career in safety. Where was the fall protection gear?} Then, with a mighty but somehow quiet shout: HO HO HO, MERRY CHRISTMAS, off, they fly to repeat this magical process all over the world.
MYTH REVISION #3: How is this senior citizen, {older than Joe Biden}, delivering goodies and LOTS and LOTS of COAL ALL OVER THE WORLD IN ONE NIGHT? Ah – by using Klingon cloning technology, Santa has thousands of clones. All happy, old, white men, who my rude doctor would call the nasty “O” word- obese!
THE END OF MY MYTH!
I was disappointed when I finally had to admit it was all a lie. By the way, I learned through the grapevine you get more presents by NOT letting your parents know you no longer believe!
While my childhood myths were busted, I still believe in my parent’s values!
MOM TAUGHT ME TO BELIEVE IN FAMILY, FAITH, FRIENDS, AND LOVE!
Mom, sometimes known as Mrs. Claus, was a YUGEEEEE believer in Family, Faith, Friends, and Love. She demonstrated those priorities every day of her life. I am still trying to live up to her values.
I miss my parents and a long list of those I love. I was indeed blessed by their love and mentorship.
OUR STRUGGLES ARE CHALLENGING, NOT INSURMOUNTABLE
We have survived a pandemic! Yes, we are in a global recession, and I believe it will worsen. But it too shall end. The Federal Reserve is doing its best to orchestrate a “soft” landing.” Time for that 2nd F – FAITH!
ONE LESSON BEARS REPEATING
Spending less than you earn will lead to YOUR financial freedom. I guarantee it!
