BLACK LIVES MATTER AND YES, ALL LIVES MATTER by Contributing Author: Brenda Cannady
“Black Lives Matter!!! And for the folks in the back row, let me say it again, BLACK LIVES MATTER. And yes, also All Lives Matter: Children’s Lives Matter, Indigenous Lives Matter and Animals Lives Matter too. Every life form that God has whispered the sweet breath of life into matters. Recognizing the problems and inequities with an intention to provide resources and corrective actions to reform conditions in one group, does not in anyway desecrate the value of other groups. So today, in this blog, we are focusing on Black Lives.”
“Not only is it critically important that the public understands that Black Lives Matter; we too, brothers and sisters, must not only know but act in ways that show our lives matter. The first step getting there is to understand that your own life matters; that you were created specifically and uniquely to be divine in your own right. No matter the circumstances of your birth or of your upbringing, know that you are perfectly formed and sufficiently equipped to succeed.”
“Whether you dream big or all the way into the stratosphere (never small)- dream. See yourself being great and happy. The pathway is there, sometimes hidden by the unkempt bushes of low confidence and confusion or blocked by the overgrowth of poverty or maybe even unseen due to the foreboding shadows created by opportunities few and far between; but it is within your ability to find or create your own path. Often this might mean sacrificing the easy and painless for the difficult and painful. For young people it might mean prioritizing attendance and classwork over popularity and freedom. For young adults starting careers, it could mean doing jobs or tasks that are not particularly desirable or enriching, but provide great networking or resume building opportunities. Reach out to the teachers, work mentors, ministers, neighbors or leaders in your community for help. Older adults want to provide guidance and suggestions. Problems may come daily but with focused effort, knowledge and a little creativity, problems can also be solved daily. You are too important to falter and lose hope.”
“Results and consequences are key components of every decision you make. Ask yourself if each choice you make is likely to provide results that propel you toward your dreams or consequences that pull you further away from them. From choosing friends and partners to how you manage your money and safety, do it wisely, with the understanding that your life matters. Your future matters. Value it, care for it, protect it.”
“The BLM movement is working hard to identify and remove the barriers of institutional racism, inequities, and police brutality among others. Your part is still critical; You take care of you! Always know, greatness is waiting for your arrival!”
STYRON POWERS’ CONCLUSION
For 30+ years I worked in the field of Safety. My “WHY” was simple. EVERY LIFE MATTERED! I worked seven days a week to PROTECT LIVES, when I had responsibility for 200 employees in NJ and when I had responsibility for tens of thousands of employees spread over 30 countries. I was not concerned with the employees’ nationality, religion, sex or color of their skin.
I am the proud father of a beautiful, gorgeous, spectacular African American daughter, of course BLACK LIVES MATTER.
JUST AS EVERY LIFE MATTERS IN MY HEART
