💰 Who Knew Mowing Lawns Could Out-Earn A College Degree?

Welcome to the game show: The Wild World of Career Choices, where passion meets practicality, and sometimes the winner is wearing steel-toe boots.

Let’s face it — the decision to pursue college, trade school, or a certification often feels like choosing between three mystery doors on a game show.
A Success Story
Years ago, a young teenager knocked on my door and asked if he could take over mowing my yard. I agreed. He kept my business for years until I sold and relocated. By that time, he owned a lawn care business, was a full-time firefighter, and had recently married.
🎓 Door #1:

Door #2

Take my nephew, for example. He runs a lawn care business that’s so successful, his grass makes more green than most hedge funds. Six figures-plus — with no college debt, no boss, and zero group projects. He probably spends more time in the sun than a biology major with a Vitamin D deficiency.

My daughter nailed this game. After graduating from university, with honors, I must add (brag), she earned her PMP certification (Project Management Professional) and leveled up like she unlocked the cheat code to career growth. It wasn’t just a resume booster — it added clarity to her passion, sharpened her leadership skills, and opened doors faster than a universal remote at a hotel lobby.
So, What Should You Choose?
If you’re 18 and feeling lost — remember, choosing a career path isn’t a permanent tattoo. It’s more like a dry-erase marker. You can test, pivot, erase, and redraw.
- Love working outdoors and want to own your time? Trade skills might be your ticket.
- Dream of leading global teams or designing the next Mars rover? College may be essential.
- Already working but want to climb higher? A certification could be the elevator button.
Your ROI isn’t just financial. It’s emotional, too. Choose the path that fills your wallet and your soul — because building wealth without purpose is like mowing the lawn with no grass.
If we want better children, we must become better adults. If we want stronger communities, we must first strengthen ourselves.
