Click to play: My Dreams Ran Into An Affirmative Action Concrete Wall!

Podcast created with Alphabet’s Notebook LM.

Today’s podcast shares my personal story about affirmative action in college admissions. Being admitted to NC State University in 1976, despite lacking academic preparedness, led to significant struggles, a loss of confidence, and the abandonment of a dream of attending medical school. Affirmative action, for me, created a mismatch rather than a genuine opportunity.  Attending a Historically Black College and University (HBCU) would have been a more suitable path. I take 100% responsibility for the decision to forgo the HBCU offer and overcame my initial setbacks through perseverance, earning multiple advanced degrees, and achieving a successful career.  Champions Get Up When Knocked Down!

If we want better children, we must become better adults. If we want stronger communities, we must first strengthen ourselves.
