Bet that last word woke you up! We hear hundreds of people during the day: Work Peers, Boss, Television, Radio, Streaming Services, Spouse, Kids, etc. Ninety-nine percent of the words have zero value. I would estimate 99.9%! But some people in my life remind me of the old EF Hutton commercial. “When E. F. Hutton Speaks- People Listen”
WHEN THEY SPEAK I LISTEN!
- Muhammad Ali – Besides being the Greatest of All Times (GOAT) Boxer (I may be biased), Ali is recognized for his message of black pride and black resistance during a time of racial discrimination. His message: “Black is Beautiful- Believe in Yourself”!
- Jeff Bezos– Founded Amazon out of his garage in 1994. Today Amazon employs over one million people, and Jeff Bezos is the richest man on this planet. Bezos can take complex problems, develop realistic solutions and implement them.
- Warren Buffett– Greatest of All Time (GOAT} Investor: “The most important decision you will make is picking your spouse.” {Yep- that statement surprised me also. And he is right.}. If you want to learn more about the Oracle of Omaha, here is a 90 minute YouTube video. https://youtu.be/PB5krSvFAPY
- My Dad – Dad did not merely talk about family, education, hard work, etc.; he walked the talked and influenced hundreds of young minds, including both sons, as a School Principal.
- Ray Dalio – The Co-Chief Investment Officer of the world’s largest hedge fund, Bridgewater Associates, and philanthropist. Bridgewater is a firm I would enjoy working with. How many times have you been asked your opinion and were afraid to answer truthfully? Ray Dalio built an environment “in which everyone has the right to understand what makes sense and no one has the right to hold a critical opinion without speaking up about it.”
- Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.- The spokesperson and leader in the Civil Rights Movement from 1955 until his assassination in 1968. He drove tremendous change through peaceful protest and cared enough to sacrifice his very life.
- Peter Lynch – As the Fidelity Magellan Mutual Fund manager, between 1977 and 1990, Lynch averaged a 29.2% annual return, consistently more than double the S&P 500 stock market index and making it the best-performing mutual fund in the world. Lynch’s simple lessons are “Invest in what you know.”
- My Mom– Taught her sons the importance of family. She lived the principles of Christianity, helping and loving others.
- Charlie Munger – Vice-chairman of Berkshire Hathaway, “When people use the word[s] common sense, what they mean is ‘uncommon sense,’ because the standard human condition is ignorance and stupidity. And when they say oh, ‘Joe has common sense,’ they mean he has uncommon sense.”
- Elon Musk – CEO of Tesla, SpaceX, The Boring Company, Hyperloop, and Neuralink. Besides being a Dad to six children, he is the second richest person on the planet. IF YOU CAN THINK IT – READ IT; LEARN IT; MASTER IT, AND ACHIEVE IT. Like Warren Buffett, Musk reads hours each day.
CONCLUSION
All the above people are/were GOAT’s. They work harder than their peers, believe in themselves, and failure is NOT AN Option. These are my mentors, and the two that influenced me the most to achieve my financial freedom, Mom and Dad. Without their love, support, and belief in me, I would not have had the luxury of retiring early and helping others achieve their financial freedom. That is why I write these blogs!
