Celebrating Black Dads: A Needed Pillar for Strengthening Our Communities

Celebrating Black Dads: A Pillar for Strengthening Our Communities

“President Obama needed black voters more than black voters needed President Obama.” Jason Riley – Wall Street Journal Columnist, Senior fellow at the Manhattan Institute

Decades of political success have not solved the problems faced by blacks. The political gains in politics did NOT produce economic success in the poor black communities. It did, however, make Obama and others into mult-millionaires.

Riley listed off statistics showing that poor, black communities became worse off during Obama’s presidency in comparison to the entire U.S. population, as well as poor, white communities. He cited these facts as evidence that the policies that Obama and other liberal leaders put in place are not producing the desired outcomes in raising people out of poverty.

He cited examples from the period of the 1940s through the ’70s when black people in America made unprecedented economic gains while facing political oppression.

“Blacks today hear plenty about what they can’t achieve due to systemic racism, the legacy of slavery, etc., but NOT enough about what we did achieve notwithstanding hundreds of years of bondage and political segregation.”

Riley also discussed a topic most people shy away from personal responsibility within the black community. Having these complex discussions is the only way to move forward.

A dad plays a crucial role in the welfare of their children for several reasons:

TAKE THE TIME TO THANK YOUR DAD

If your dad can pick up the phone, call him. NOW! Thank him for all he did for you. If it was your mom, the same thing, call her!   If your dad is no longer here, think of all he sacrificed for you and how much you owe that man. Whoever your role model was/is, close your eyes and thank them.

My Role Models- Nathaniel Boney and William Powers

Imagine we journey to the 1960’s. It was an era where 80% of black kids had a dad in their home. How much better would the millions whose dad is missing in action be if he was present?

The only man needed to help black kids is a dad who cares for his family. I grew up with a father who made me feel safe and loved, a man who would sacrifice his life for his sons.

Dance With My Father” – I see Dad whenever I hear this song.

“Back when I was a child,
Before life removed all the innocence,
My father would leave behind
and dance with my mother and me and then
spin me around ’till I fell asleep
then up the stairs he would carry me
And I knew for sure I was loved

If I could get another chance,
Another walk, another dance with him
I’d play a song that would never, ever, ever end
How I’d love, love, love
to dance with my father again.

When I and my mother would disagree
To get my way
I would run from her to him
He’d make me laugh
just to comfort me
then finally make me do just what my mama said
later that night when I was asleep
he left a dollar under my sheet
Never dreamed that he would be gone from me.

If I could steal one final glance, one final stare,
One final dance with him,
I’d play a so g that would never, ever, ever end
How I’d love, love, love to dance with my father again

Sometimes I’d listen outside the door
and I’d hear how my mother cried for him
I pray for her even more than me
I pray for her even more than me
Ohhhh

I know I’m praying for much too much
but could you send back the only man she loved
I know you don’t do it usually
but Dear Lord she’s dying to
dance with my father again
every night I fall asleep
this is all I ever
DREAM

I know you don’t do it usually
but Lord she’s dying
to dance with my father again.?
