THE PRIVILEGE OF WORKING YOUR DERRIERE OFF!
Recently a speaker at the United Nations stated: that white privilege is ruining his state. I have worked in this state and the majority of the others. Also, I had the privilege of working in about 30 countries. Many of the good and kind people I met, many with a similar milk chocolate complexion as I would LOVE to immigrate to this country. I understand why. The U.S. provides more opportunities for success for those who get off their whining ass and work than ANY OTHER country. Regardless of your privilege or supposedly lack of.
MY PARENTS MODELED WORKING YOUR KEISTER OFF!
Mom, Dad, and my maternal family demonstrated: GET UP EVERY DAY AND WORK HARD! They assured me that is all I needed to become anything I worked hard enough for.
WORKING YOUR HINDQUARTERS OFF!
We were growing up in the Powers household; you were going to work. Dad loved to garden and took care of our four acres yard. We worked beside him when we were old enough (about twelve- months, that is!)—learning how to garden, take care of a yard, and meet Mom’s high expectations! They set the same expectations around education. I heard, “after high school, you ARE going to continue your education.” That also started at the age of about twelve- months, that is! Do you see a trend – My privilege?
Learning lawn care and gardening inspired me to learn how to grow the popular N.C. azalea perennial. Wilmington, North Carolina, holds an annual Azaleas Festival. After planting hundreds of azaleas in our yard, I started selling the plants. Our yard was my free marketing. Maybe that inspired me to study marketing when I studied for my MBA. The sales paid for my college education for the first two years. When I attended college, state universities were affordable. It is criminal what the universities charge today!
My brother drove a school bus for two years to earn money. I took the training but wisely decided it was not for me! Do you know how early the school bus drivers had to get up? YAZUU! When I attended high school (yes, Amanda, we had buses and electricity!), high school students were encouraged to become bus drivers. Even as a teenager, I questioned the safety of that decision! Perhaps that influenced my career choice of Environmental, Health, Safety, and Sustainability.
When my parents decided to build my paternal Grandmother a better house, my brother and I worked daily that summer helping Dad completely renovate that home. My first renovation project instilled in me a love of woodworking and real estate. I learned the skills that I utilized to finish my basement.
THE PRIVILEGE OF WORKING YOUR BEHIND OFF!
After college, my brother and I entered the professional world determined to maintain our work ethic privilege and climb the corporate ladder. I am proud we both reached the level of V.P. and my brother SVP. Did I tell you he is the smarter of the two and I the better looking?
PRINCIPLES TO WORK YOUR BUNS OFF AND ACHIEVE SUCCESS!
- GET STARTED! Too many times, I was frozen with fear of failure. Successful people fail; get up and keep on moving! The wealthiest man in the world, depending on the week, is Elon Musk or Jeff Bezos. Both have failed. You got to START!
- Education pays dividends. Get an education that yields a well-paying job. Many well-paying jobs DO NOT, let me repeat, DO NOT require a $180,000 four-year degree: Airline Pilots, Sales representatives, Electrician, Plumber, Wind Turbine technicians, Refinery operators, Nuclear Plant operators, and many more. Mike, an electrician, is working in my home today. $120.00 for the first hour and $90.00 for each additional hour. I paid Mike $780.00. {Dad was good with electrical work. I should have paid more attention!} All donations, including bitcoin, are greatly appreciated!
- Live below your means. ALWAYS Spend LESS than you Earn- ALWAYS!
- Eliminate debts except for real estate. Average American credit card debt is > $6,000.00. Banks charge an average of 18% interest for credit card debt!
- Invest your savings. Your return MUST exceed inflation for the majority of years!
- Work your ass off, keep getting promotions or start your own business.
- Retire when you achieve financial freedom and fly my favorite privilege sign outside your winter and summer homes.
- KEEP THINGS SIMPLE STYRON {KISS} – Complexity is a PAIN IN THE BEHIND. I have a great joke, but my wife may read this, and our cat has the best sofa!
- PRIORITIZE Health, Family, Education, Learning, Joy, and Your Passions!
- A family together costs less than one apart. MEN – TAKE CARE OF YOUR DAMN CHILDREN. BE A MAN OR CUT THAT DANG THANG OFF!
CONCLUSION
Some people have more privileges than I, and I have more than others. As Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said- “What difference does it make!”
GET OFF YOUR DERRIERE AND STOP SINGING “WOE IS ME” (Off key, by the way).
